How to get to Keystone, Colorado
Where to stay in Keystone, Colorado
When it comes to where to stay in Keystone, River Run Village is the best spot, putting you steps from the slopes, dining, and après-ski fun. Silver Mill Condos are a top choice, offering cozy accommodations with easy gondola access. If you prefer more space, renting a VRBO is a great option; it’s perfect for groups or families. Other options include the Keystone Lodge & Spa for a full-service experience or Hyatt Place Keystone for budget-friendly comfort. No matter where you stay, you’ll be surrounded by stunning mountain views and endless winter adventures.
Best things to do in Keystone, Colorado in Winter
Shred the Slopes at Keystone Resort
Keystone’s got the kind of terrain that keeps things interesting and fun for everyone, from first-timers to experts. Three mountains, endless groomers, deep powder runs, and a night-skiing scene that lets you keep the fun going after dark. The resort’s trails are known for being super wide and scenic, making them great for cruising. If you’re feeling brave, check out the Outback for some deep snow action.
Bonus: Kids 12 and under ski free with a two-night stay at a Keystone property.
Extra Bonus: Taking a ski or snowboard lesson? Ask for Lily or B Bell. They are AH-MAZING!!!
Explore the World’s Largest Mountaintop Snow Fort
Yes, Keystone is home to an actual snow fort at 11,640 feet, and it’s just as epic as it sounds. Sitting at the top of Dercum Mountain, this winter wonderland has tunnels, slides, and plenty of spots for an impromptu snowball fight. It’s a must-see, whether you’re with kids or just want to feel like one again. On top of that, you get to ride the River Run Gondola up, so the views on the way are just as good as the fun waiting at the top.
Glide Across Keystone Lake Ice Rink

If skiing isn’t your thing (or your legs need a break), lace up some skates and hit the largest Zamboni-maintained outdoor ice rink in North America. Keystone Lake transforms into a dreamy skating spot in winter, with twinkling lights and stunning mountain views. Whether you’re perfecting your spins or just trying to stay upright, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon. Grab a hot cocoa from the Adventure Center and make a whole cozy moment out of it. You can also check out the Dercum ice skating rink, a smaller rink located in River Run Village.

Snow Tubing at Adventure Point
Snow tubing is basically sledding’s cooler, faster cousin, and Adventure Point has some of the best lanes in Colorado. The runs are perfectly carved and steep enough to give you that butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling, but smooth enough to keep it fun for all ages. This was hands down one of my favorite things to do in Keystone! It’s a lot faster than you think!
Bonus: There’s a magic carpet lift, so no dragging your tube back up the hill.
Note: Book in advance because spots fill up fast! Also, a lift ticket or pass is required for tubing.
Sleigh Ride Dinners Under the Stars
There’s something about a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow that feels straight out of a winter movie. Keystone’s sleigh ride dinners take it to the next level — cozy blankets, crisp mountain air, and a hearty homestyle meal waiting at the end. With its fireside cookout and intimate dining experience, it’s a magical way to wrap up a day in the mountains.
Bonus: book the earlier time slot so you can actually see those winter wonderland-like views.
Snowmobiling Through the Rockies
If you want to cover some serious ground and take in insane mountain views, hop on a snowmobile and hit the backcountry trails. Keystone’s surrounding areas have miles of groomed and off-trail terrain, including wide-open meadows and deep-woods exploring. Guided tours make it easy for beginners, while thrill-seekers can rent their own snowmobiles and take on more adventurous routes.
Shopping in River Run Village
Keystone’s River Run Village has that perfect mix of cute mountain-town charm and solid shopping options. Whether you need a new beanie, some ski gear, or just feel like browsing, the local shops have plenty to check out. Pick up a Keystone souvenir, grab some snacks, or warm up by one of the fire pits scattered throughout the village.
Bonus: one of my favorite ways to get ski gear at a low price is visiting thrift stores in ski towns. Check out some local thrift shops like ReSaddled Thrift Store for some affordable finds.
And if all that shopping makes you hungry, there’s no shortage of spots to grab a bite. Here are my top picks on where to eat in Keystone:
Pizza on the Run: those baked wings and pizza are what dreams are made of!
New Moon Cafe: get the Aretha Franklin panini. Thank me later.
Zuma Roadhouse: the short-rib stroganoff was a YES!
Mountaintop Chocolate Shop: because hot cocoa is a MUST and theirs is rich and creamy deliciousness.
Day Trip to Colorado’s Hot Springs

Looking for some relaxing things to do in Keystone? After a few days in the snow, nothing hits quite like soaking in a natural hot spring. Keystone is a quick drive from two of the best — Cottonwood Hot Springs and Mount Princeton Hot Springs. Cottonwood is about an hour’s drive from Keystone, more low-key, tucked in the forest with a relaxed vibe, while Princeton (maybe 10 minutes further than Cottonwood) is a little bougier and has a mix of pools, including a river-fed soaking area. Either way, it’s the perfect way to warm up, ease sore muscles, and just vibe in the mountains.
Indoor Freestyle Fun at Woodward Copper Barn
If the weather isn’t playing nice or you just want to switch things up, head to the Woodward Barn at Copper Mountain. This indoor action sports facility has trampolines, foam pits, and ramps, making it the perfect spot to practice ski and snowboard tricks in a softer setting. You don’t have to be an expert — there are areas for beginners, and it’s just as fun to bounce around and test your balance. It’s like a playground for winter athletes.
The options of things to do in winter in Keystone are endless! From flying down the slopes, tubing under the stars, or unwinding in a hot spring, there’s no wrong way to enjoy this mountain playground. So grab your gear, layer up, and get ready for days filled with snow, scenery, and seriously good times!
